About the ALMA Summer Institute
The Apprenticeship for Leaders in Mosaic Arts (ALMA) Summer Institute is a paid, nine-week apprenticeship program for youth ages 16–25 in Albuquerque and the surrounding area. It is a competitive program — clay experience is recommended, but not required.
During the program, apprentices work alongside talented local artists on real, large-scale public art projects across Albuquerque. You’ll help finalize mosaic designs on free-standing concrete sculptures, cut tiles from wet clay, glaze, fire, install, and grout large-scale mosaic murals. Beyond the hands-on art skills, apprentices gain valuable job experience and become part of Albuquerque’s greater art community.
