Hello everyone, my name is Jilleen Salazar I am a 22-year-old Mexican/American artist in the city of Albuquerque. My passion for art grew when I was in my junior year of high school while I was in Margarita’s ceramic class and both Vanessa and Margarita’s after-school mural program. I was hired at ALMA in 2018 where I learned and increased my skills.
Throughout these four years, I learned to carve, glaze, draw, color, and communicate. Most importantly we’ve all learned to work together as a team and it helped us create art, friendships, and a second home. The thing I liked the most about this year was being able to plan out our 2021 and future murals from scratch. Starting from the concrete bases that we came up with from the interviews we received from the South Valley community, Mountain View community, and Pueblo of Isleta. What has caught my eye the most and what I’m looking forward to this year is to installing our ceramic pieces onto the butterfly made out of concrete at the Valle de Oro Refuge. Thank you for your time. I hope to see you all in our 2021 mural dedication.
