It’s exciting to be in our 20th year, with a commemorative exhibition at the National Hispanic Cultural Center to celebrate this anniversary!  For a long time, I’ve dreamed of having an exhibition that will showcase the incredible talent of the 300+ apprentices who have worked on mosaics over the years.  In our 20th year we have also achieved another dream – that of becoming a nonprofit organization devoted to creating world class mosaics and developing young artists into professionals and leaders. It has been a long road with a lot of laughter, plenty of stress and some tears, and many wonderful memories.

It’s also really exciting to have Vanessa Alvarado, be the Lead Artist who is primarily in charge of this summer’s project. She started out as an apprentice right after her senior year at Rio Grande High School and has been with us ever since.  Watching her skills grow artistically and administratively over the years has been really rewarding, but I’m even more grateful for the love and friendship she has given me for 13 years. Building a women-led arts organization with Vanessa Alvarado and Margarita Paz-Pedro has been such an incredibly fulfilling journey.   I love them both so much and am excited to work alongside them this summer as we enter our 20th year!
