The ALMA Summer Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico is accepting applications for their 2024 summer art apprenticeship program. The 9-week paid program runs from June 4th to July 30th. Applicants should be 16-24 years old as of June 1, 2024 and priority is given to those from Mountain View, South Valley Community, Isleta Pueblo, and those who have been through the foster system, though applicants from the greater Albuquerque area are also considered. The deadline to apply is March 22, 2024.
During the program, apprentices will help complete a large-scale mosaic mural at Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge. They will help design, cut tiles, glaze, fire, install, and grout the mosaic. Apprentices will also learn job skills, work with local artists, and connect with the Albuquerque art community. Clay experience is recommended but not required.
