About ALMA Summer Institute

ALMA Summer Institute is working on a multi-year project at Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge. We are looking for youth applicants from Albuquerque, specifically the Mountain View, South Valley Community, and Isleta Pueblo community. During the program, apprentices will help finalize a large-scale mosaic design on a free-standing concrete sculpture, cut tiles from wet clay, glaze, fire tiles, install, and grout the large-scale mosaic mural. Apprentices will also learn valuable job skills, work with talented artists from around Albuquerque, and become part of the greater art community in Albuquerque.

Program Duration

The program runs for nine weeks, from June 2nd to August 1st, 2025, with preliminary activities starting on May 24th.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be between 16 and 25 years old as of June 1, 2025. Preference is given to those from Mountain View, South Valley Community, Isleta Pueblo, the greater Albuquerque area, and/or those who have been in foster care.

**This is a paid apprenticeship and a competitive application. Clay experience is recommended, but not required.
